Finance Degrees Online

The course is designed to enhance career opportunities in international banking and finance, financial and investment analysis, multinational operations, financial management consultancy, public sector financial management and fund management. Graduates may have the choice of a wide range of jobs such as Credit Derivatives Manager, International Hedge Fund Manager, International Credit Analyst or International Banking Manager. Graduates can also proceed to further study.

The course consists of eight core modules and a four-month placement. The first semester takes place in Poitiers and the second semester is taught in London. You will also need to complete a dissertation/project, which can be undertaken in either the UK or France.

The minimum requirement is a lower second BA/BSc Honours degree (UK or equivalent standard) in an Accounting and/or Finance-related subject. Applicants who have had substantial work experience in Finance or Strategy related employment and/or have achieved relevant professional qualifications will also be considered.

This innovative programme course is offered as a collaborative venture with ESCEM School of Business and Management in Poitiers, France. It involves studying in the UK and in France as well as undertaking a work placement anywhere in the world. It enables you to acquire an advanced understanding of recent developments, concepts and techniques in accounting, financial analysis, financial management and strategy within an international context. The four-month work placement offers a unique opportunity to reinforce your study with valuable work experience.

Successful completion of the course will lead to the award of two Masters degrees – an MSc in International Financial Strategy from London Metropolitan University and an MSc in Global Financial Management from ESCEM. This unusual dual award gives you an increased chance of employment and a competitive edge in the field of global financial strategy.The course is taught in English in both France and the UK, so it is not necessary to be a French speaker to undertake the programme.

You also take a free optional module, which may be one of the options above, or a module from elsewhere in our postgraduate scheme. A dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words is also required.

Teaching and learning methods include group discussions, problem analysis and video, as well as conventional lectures and seminars. Language learning facilities (audio, CD-ROM and satellite) are available in the University’s Language Centre.

You should have an Honours degree (or equivalent) in accounting, economics, business or a related area. Applicants whose first degree is in science or humanities and who have business experience or interests are welcome to apply. Similarly, applicants without formal qualifications but with business experience are encouraged to apply. Account will be taken of the type of business experience and motivation.

MA International Finance is designed for graduates (or equivalent) from accounting, economics, business and related disciplines. You will develop knowledge of finance, related specifically to international business, exploring the capability of firms in conducting international business and examining financial decisions within an international business organisation. The course will develop your understanding of issues (and the analytical techniques used) in international finance.

You can benefit from a strong research culture within the department and the many links the department has with industry and commerce, and relevant professional bodies.
